Thanks for posting that......I was born and raised in small PENNA town, and if anything that article is more optimistic than it should be. My home town has gone from 18,000 to 8,000 people and , as always, there are still 0 blacks and 0 hispanics living there. The coal mines shut down about 50 years ago....nothing significant has com e in to provide unskilled jobs. The first day of deer hunting is a holiday, and although they are religious (mostly catholic)....they are cafeteria catholics. In the coal region, unions were strong and sorely missed.

What I don't understand is why PA is hurting so badly. Its a cool state with a lot of natural beauty and resources. The climate is not FLA but it certainly isn't all that harsh. Even as American cities go, Pittsburgh and Phillie are not that bad. And for years, Pittsburgh supposedly has been making the transistion from a manu. city to one more reliant on tech and information......and yet, it continues to lose population.

Any comments?
