The Kurds have been pretty much autonomous for about 17 years now and I don't think anybody is gonna change that without a very "bloody" conflict.

The Shia have felt the same way about Southern Iraq since the no-fly zones went into effect after the first Iraq War.

It's the Sunnis that are screwed. They don't really control any revenue sources and they aren't too well liked by the other two. They are being gradually pushed out of Baghdad by the Shia militias and may eventually end up with only the Western Provinces as their part of any Federation.

The ONE thing I DO know is that this is NOT what Cheney and the other neo-cons had in mind when they were talking about "flowers being thrown" at our troops during the invasion.
