If the tipping point is, indeed, near, then they are, indeed, wise in having recognized it. But their "hysteria" is misdirected. That's partly how we know it's hysteria. If the tipping point is where the most shrill voices claim it is, then why the call for initiating action that cannot possibly be effected in time? Even if the planet went dark immediately we couldn't fix the atmosphere before the tipping point came and went. So the calls should be for plans to move to high ground, etc., not cut emissions. It makes no sense to start the emissions cutting process after the horse has left the barn.

Running around yelling and doing things that can't possibly be helpful while failing to do things that would be helpful are textbook manifestations of hysteria.
