To be at 5.5k feet and at 6b you have go be in the within 200 miles of the NW Coast where the relentlessly NOT cold air pours in from off of the Pacific, and you would need be facing into those winds, i would think.
For instance Palm Trees populate Victoria,British Columbia.
But simply tell me this, do you have flowers blooming and leaves on your trees and your ground is fully thawed(that would be in line with 6b, which is about 21days earlier spring than 5b.)
If NOT, you then, by virtue of altitude, in a MICRO-CLIMATE zone.
Also, are you on the west or east side of your elevation???
If on the east side you would be a couple zones lower than the west side.(The Pacific Winds, of course, always coming from the west)
Let's give an example. I am in zone5b, but on the immediate coast line.
i have 3 acres.
The south side of my house is within 3feet of the house, is zone7, the low area north of my house is zone 4.
The low area at the front of my property is 6a.
A high spot at the back, where NW winds howl, with no protection, is a zone 3. i have to plant accordingly. Max |
