FCC Grants Nextlink LMDS License Extension Until 2012

Monday April 14, 6:17 pm ET

HERNDON, VA--(MARKET WIRE)--Apr 14, 2008 -- Nextlink Wireless, Inc. today announced that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has granted Nextlink's request for license renewal extensions until June 1, 2012 on all of the 48 licenses for which it filed extension requests for its Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) licenses.

In addition to the license renewal extension granted by the FCC, Nextlink has submitted to the FCC filings demonstrating that it has met the substantial service requirements for 34 additional LMDS licenses by building wireless networks and offering substantial service and coverage in these licensed spectrum areas. The company expects to receive FCC approval on these substantial service filings in the near term. Over the next several months, Nextlink will also submit filings with the FCC demonstrating substantial service requirements for its remaining LMDS licenses.

"We are very pleased to receive this extension and thank the FCC for reaching this important decision," said Robert Beran, president and CEO of Nextlink. "We have deployed fixed wireless networks covering most of our licenses to serve businesses, government agencies and major wireline and wireless communications service providers. With this extension, we are able to preserve the remainder of our licenses as we continue to expand our wireless networks to deliver mobile backhaul and alternative access solutions and offer services more broadly."
