Given the fact that the exact tipping point can't be known, as any climatologist would acknowledge, it does make sense to take actions to cut emissions. It may well have an effect in time, or at least mitigate the damage.
It's kind of like quitting smoking after you have emphysema. You might not be able to stop the disease, but you don't have to aid and abet it.
Another analogy would be the first rule of holes. If you're stuck in a hole, the first thing to do is to stop digging.
