RE: Merced forthe people

Merced is not, according to the announcement, intended for home PC's
but is a superchip to compete in servers, high-end workstations,
sustitute for mainframes, and, according to Steve Chen, be the building block for supercomputers. Pentium II in slot 1 remains the chip of choice for quality home PC's.

Note Q3 was the record unit chip sale. If Japan had not collapsed, and flash memory lagged it would have been a huge positive surprise. This was a great quarter, Intel is on track. Be of good cheer! Slow Q4 growth is typical Intel modesty. US sales will be up, and maybe Europe and China; SE Asia and Japan will stay down and will recover slowly, but will be huge markets when (if) their economies recover.
