I think things are being twisted a little here! First of all I never said PCs are doomed. They will continue to grow as their prices will come down dramatically (look at the margins for INTC for example). However I believe the growth will not be as impressive as before in the consumer market. As for companies such as IBM, and HWP (and by the way I never mentioned CPQ, nor I ever will) are not just into selling PCs. If they were I can guarantee you their stocks will be diminished by as much as perhaps 80% from their current valuations!
The new territory for mass consumers will not be PCs, but thin machines such as NCs, and Web TVs, and coming this Christmas you will see a taste of what to come in 1998 and beyond not only at consumer level, but also at corporate level.
You state: > you SAY THE PC as we know it is DOOMED. Will you promise to me > and the rest of the thread that you will come back and beg for our > forgiveness for ever telling us that the PC industry is dead and > buried.
hmmm.... interesting. I would love to see how or where in any of my posts I said that PCs are dead and buried in the tone you claim I have done so! But one thing I can say in relation to PCs, if MSFT does not shift its business model from just making the software for fat PCs to a broader market such that it can take advantage of the computing model defined by Sun, via telecommunications, media, and thin machines, etc. (where it can control the actual highways on which Sun's computing vision will travel), it (that is Microsoft) will be doomed and buried!
You state: > By the way Addi, can you make sure Compusa has a full stocking of > sunw's unix workstations for this christmas.
I am not so sure about that!! But if you call Sun I am sure they will ship you one the next day! As for Compusa, you may also want to check out GoodGuys, or CircuitCity for NCs and digital TVs this Christmas, you may get a much better bargain in price as compare to PCs for the functionality you want to have!
