Sears Holdings Chairman Edward Lampert raises AutoZone stake to 36.2 percent from 31 percent

NEW YORK (AP) -- Billionaire investor and Sears Holdings Corp. Chairman Edward S. Lampert has increased his stake in AutoZone Inc. to 36.2 percent, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Tuesday.

Through his Greenwich, Conn.-based hedge fund ESL Investments Inc., Lampert now beneficially owns about 22.9 million shares.

Lampert previously reported owning 22 million shares, or a 31 percent stake in the Memphis, Tenn.-based auto parts retailer.

Among Lampert's other holdings is a 37.2 percent stake in auto retailer AutoNation Inc.

AutoZone shares rose $1.87 to $119 in morning trading.
