And reducing pollution is not for the betterment of mankind because.....why?

I already said, some may put a higher mankind-bettering priority health care or education or goods and services. Lots of ways to better mankind. Reducing pollution is one of them.

It seems to me that, even if funds weren't limited, which they are, and if there weren't competing priorities, which there are, we still would not want to pursue any of them past the point where they were cost effective. Do we really need to provide enough education for every single student to be successful in college? Or enough health care so we have vaccines to prevent splinters? Likewise there are limits to how much pollution reduction makes sense and is cost effective. We have to exhale, after all.

What in the heck do you think the war in Iraq is all about?

Assuming that were relevant to the subject at hand, I might retort that two wrongs don't make a right. <g>

Which reminds me, did you try that tax calculator I posted yesterday. I was surprised at how massive a chunk defense consumed. Ouch!
