Six watts power consumption v. 12-30 watts = lower cost to design and handle the plastic melting power of competitors products and longer battery life. 62 mm2 (1st version, less with shrinks) die size v. 120 mm2 = lower cost to manufacture. Paid for & profitable <0.25 micron fab capacity to make the parts v. AMD and Cyrix losing money. I hope that's simple and clear enough.

I guess you could make an argument anologous to when the Japanese entered the U.S. market with Datsun and Toyota autos, they were cheap and consumed less power (gas). Your argument is that of the Detroit auto makers; "These little guys don't stand a chance, the American Public (National anthem playing in the background) want our Grand Tour Behemoth Deluxes with the pretty little gal plopped on the hood." ("Intel Inside" ad campaign). Who wanted functional, thrifty, and reliable cars despite the obsticle of the huge entrenched American auto industry? About 1/2 of all Americans did.

The C6 and C6+ fit a need in much of the world for low cost, lower power plug compatible parts. IDT will be successful selling a few hundred thousand per quarter but has the capacity to manufacture millions.
