Some observers have pointed out that gold stocks will often move before gold, and sometimes opposite short term.

Can you slide the data along in one day increments and then see the correlation ? And does the correlation go negative with about a 2-4 day delta ?

If you take the finance companies out of the S&P (they are still about 25%) every other company either owns or makes STUFF, and is thus short dollars to some degree. Also, energy is now about 18% of the S&P.
