† Kent, welcome this thread is open to all. Please feel free to jump in at any time.
"But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through santification of the Spirit and belief of the truth."
Belief originates in the soul which was created by God our Father.
One could spend an entire life time developing this question of "belief and its origins" which you pose, and a very good one it is. In relation to God the answer can only be fully and truly explored by delving in to the word of God.
It begins with Adam and Eve and their belief in God all the way down through, Abraham,Isaac, and Jacob, right through to Moses, Joshua, and through all the judges, kings and prophets of God. The deciples of Jesus, those who walked with Him, talked with Him, supped with Him for three years. Those who saw Him crucified and then saw Him resurrect and ascend into heaven. It continues through all of those who then heard the words and teachings of His deciples, and was born in them the Spirit of truth, which was always in their soul, but now on hearing the word, became manifest.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men and the light shineth in darkness; and darkness comprehended it not" John 1:1-5
You see Kent the word of God is alive, because the word of God is Jesus, the Living Word.
There is so much more, one cannot put an end to understanding all of the magnificence of God our Father. We can, however, know all that He would have us know by applying our minds with an honest heart to his letter to us, the Bible. The word of God!...... Hebrews 11:6
For now I will yield to my brother John.
Go with God and may he bless your every step to reaching His truths,
