How about an unmoderated debate with a pre-set list of topics. First candidate gets 2 minutes to speak on the topic, then ask a question of the other candidate on that issue. Second candidate gets to reply and then speechify for a while. Reverse the order for the next issue. You would only need a timekeeper, and we would get a real look at the candidates without the moderator straitjacket imposed on them now.
