Bob, you truly are experiencing the downside of a wirehouse. I don't work for one because I don't like the restrictions. But per your question. I would simply negotiate a better rate with them. If they don't see the wisdom in keeping the account then pardon my frence but screw them. But...they do have control of your cash. You do not truly have control of monies rec'd from shorting a stock when the other certs haven't been rec'd. I would see if they'll loan or produce some sort of cash advancement. What's the differnce if it costs you 7% or so to have control of money when you think, obviously, that you can make more off of your stock trading. But I don't truly reccommend this course of action. I would simply realize that they do somewhat have you by the balls and wait, patiently, for the transaction to be completed. In the long scheme of things, this will be completed in time and you'll be very well off, it sounds.
