IMO, the animosity in the camp of whatever Dem is left on the sidelines will likely subside rather quickly when the business at hand is defeating Jonn McCain. The challenge will not necessitate the tearing down of McCain personally,rather, it will be fairly obvious to all but those who vote for parties over principles, that a vote for McCain is a vote for continued Bush-like politics. Quite simply, McCain simply represents business as usual regarding an endless involvement in the middle east occupation/manipulation. No matter what people believe as to the validation or condemnation of the "war", it will be easily shown that a continued occupation will send our economy to it's death throes in short order. His promises of further tax cuts will be indefensible.
Lapel flags and preachers, bullet dodging and false claims of experience will mean little as our economy falters, and the normally dormant American diatoms seem to be at least a little interested this time around.

As for an Obama/Clinton ticket, (or vise versa in all fairness) I would think it would allow for more press folly and continue to be a distraction to the real issues. Can you hear ABC & Faux News headlines: "Who wear the pants on this ticket?....Is Hillary the next Cheeney?.....Do Mrs. Clinton and Mrs. Obama cat fight off camera? etc etc etc....

Once the Dems get over this hump, I would think there will be a wave of momentum in short order once people see the absolute need for unity to effect any real change.
