Carter is the last guy i want to defend but the mideast is going to hell in handbasket. Assuming that carter is not against the existance of the state of israel, his talking to hamas in and of itself doesnt upset me. I would like to think he told them in private that there would be much to gain if they stopped the rocket attacks on israel and the suicide bombings. A coalition of folks in the US for peace in the mideast could then force a peace on all parties. I think that is his thinking. He may be naive and as most initiatives in the mideast it will probably fail. Hell hamas probably would never go for it but is it not worth trying. Again i dont think carter is anti-israel. I think he has the issues the left has with israel. I think its mostly naive but i still would not let any rock be unturned in the search for peace in that region.
