GAO: Administration Has No Plan for Pakistan
The National Counterterrorism Center, White House National Security Council and other agencies have failed to wield a common military, diplomatic, intelligence, law-enforcement and economic plan to deal with the danger of Islamist terrorism coming out of Pakistan, the Government Accountability Office said in a scathing report yesterday. The administration has no "comprehensive plan to destroy a resurgent al Qaeda or other militant groups in the tribal areas of Pakistan and has not adequately monitored the billions in U.S. taxpayer dollars sent to the Pakistani government to combat the groups," according to the GAO, as the Los Angeles Times reports. The administration's approach has been so ineffective, the GAO said, that the American ambassador to Pakistan has been drafting her own plan to deal with the country's tribal regions because she didn't get one from Washington.
