In 25 years of Republican deficit spending, we've only had one Dem POTUS,and he was a deficit hawk and eventually squeaked out a surplus.

Then Bush comes along and takes it all back with his irresponsible tax cuts and expensive war.


He wasn't a deficit hawk. He got lucky on the economy and had the good sense to ride that puppy. Not that I don't appreciate his doing so, only that "deficit hawk" is a bit overstated.

In any event, the POTUS has relatively little to do with spending or taxation. It's the congress.

Both the Dem candidates now are pledging pay as you go strategies.

They're either fooling themselves or trying to fool us. With some success on the later, it would seem.
