C-Cube to Conduct First Demonstration of MPEG-2 Low-Delay Technology Based on a Single Chip Codec Solution
MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 15. 1997--C-Cube Microsystems (NASDAQ:CUBE), today announced that it will conduct the first public demonstration of its new low-delay technology at the Tenth Annual Microprocessor Forum being held Tuesday, Oct. 14 through Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, Calif.
Based on the company's revolutionary DVx MPEG-2 codec architecture, C-Cube's low-delay technology is the industry's first solution to allow simultaneous encoding and decoding of MPEG-2 main level @ simple profile on a single-chip.
The low-delay capability of DVx addresses high-quality video communication applications that require minimal latency, such as satellite news gathering, Intranetworking, telemedicine and distance learning. DVx represents the first solution capable of addressing both the quality, latency and cost issues necessary to allow wide-spread deployment of these applications.
"Intranet bandwidth is rapidly expanding as 100-mbit and gigabit ethernet switches are deployed, creating opportunities for high-quality video communication at the desktop level," said Les Kohn, chief architect and a fellow for C- Cube Microsystems. "The software based DVx architecture provides the performance, flexibility and cost-effectiveness necessary to address emerging video communications applications for corporate, educational and medical markets."
