(BW) GST Telecom Washington Turns up Spokane Network

VANCOUVER, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 1996--GST Telecom Washington, part
of the GST Telecommunications Inc., ("AMEX:GST") family of companies, announced Tuesday
that it has turned up its operations in Spokane, Wash.

Testing on the all-digital, fiber optic network was completed on August 26, more than 30 days
ahead of schedule. A major interexchange carrier will utilize a large portion of the network for data
services. In addition, GST plans a four-mile expansion which will encompass several medical
facilities in downtown Spokane.

"The Spokane network is GST's first operational network in the state of Washington and several
others are under development," stated Earl Kamsky, president of GST Telecom, Inc.

Kamsky added, "We are also proud to announce the appointment of Mitzi Sachs as vice president
and general manager of GST Telecom Washington. Mitzi brings extensive telecommunications
experience to GST and will head up our Spokane operations."

GST, a full service telecommunications provider, offers integral voice, data and video transmission
services.

GST Telecommunications Inc., headquartered in Vancouver, Wash., currently operates networks
in 15 cities in the Western United States and Hawaii with additional networks under construction
in six cities in the San Francisco Bay area.
