I don't view this discussion as being political, but rather very much related to mining speculation and its disappointments.

I think the above quote from RE's most recent post correctly defines the current situation in the Ecuadoran assembly. Correa is a politician. and politics is the art of the possible. I don't believe he sides with activists except to the extent that he has been forced to do so in this instance. Indeed it may well be that mining's enemies in Ecuador are Correa's enemies.... the same political activists.

So I don't think it is the fete accompli that the thread talk apparently believes it is. The end of the story has not been written..
