C'mon, the press was skewering him over it until more and more stories like this one showed up, and the polls didn't show any damage. No harm, no foul, and they eventually moved on.

Of course, they did repeat the whole thing about 578 times a day for a week first. Hardly "smoothed out" unless you think sheer repetition eventually just numbed everyone to it, which is possible.

This is what I mean about not pointing fingers at the press all the time. This guy read Obama's response and other speeches and put things in context for himself. Sounds like many PA voters did the same.
