Wow! I think you're spot on, Bob, harsh though your words are.
It will take shared sacrifice, too, from Americans. I'm hoping all three candidates see this. They can't run on it....I accept that. I'm just hoping they know it.
I can't vote for McCain, though, because he will hang on to our bloated military and our ME policies longer than we can afford.
There is an urgency to our fiscal situation, IMO.
Again, the only reason I'm so cavalier about raising taxes on the rich is simply because it will affect the economy very little. We can balance the budget on the backs of the poor or the retired, true, but one must clearheadedly accept that we'll also see retailers and other small businesses go under, too.
Bob, I know you're concerned about energy policy and the lights going out. Have you thought about the fact that the economy is slowing and the retiring boomers will cut back and even more if their benefits are cut....so the point is why do we assume so much additional energy capacity is even needed.
Is any needed? Our population isn't growing....we're at replacement rate. If our Mexicans head back to Mexico for greener pastures, our population will actually decline. |
