We need SOMEPLACE to put the OFFTOPIC stuff... This looked like a good prospect! Do you know a way to address a message to someone on a particular thread where they have not posted previously?

I would like to respond to someone's comments on thread xxx, but the response would be off topic, so I'd rather put the response here (Chat). If the poster has never posted on CHAT, I would be forced to respond via email (if their profile provided one), or just post OFFTOPIC on the xxx thread.
