So... territory is 'occupied', and the international community (through the authority of the U.N.) has granted legal permission for the U.S.'s occupation of Iraq.

And, that approval for the occupation expires this December 31st.

(Iraq has not yet reached an agreement with the US to replace the soon-to-lapse U.N. authorization --- but Bush and the Iraqis are busy negotiating terms for an agreement RIGHT NOW. If and when they reach an agreement, it will then be subject to legal approval both in Iraq and in the US... since we are *both* sovereign constitutional democracies now....)
