Bob; The tax cuts worked perfectly as a stimulus. The spending was irresponsible. The deficit has been closing nicely - if spending had been controlled we would have an entirely different discussion. Also, if Bush had stayed out of Iraq and restricted spending he could have had a fantastic financial record. We have just gone through a rapid economic expansion - financed by deficit spending. To suggest just as the economy enters a downturn that "the deficit has been closing nicely" does not square with what the picture will be AFTER we are done with the inevitable downturn. Facts are that Bush took over a budget that was well under control and the damage done by Bush will take many decades to repair. steve
