Big business, who own the American mainstream media, don't want stories about legalizing marijuana in the news. That would really hurt a lot of big money making industries from pharma to cigarettes to alcohol. I don't think it is the politcial parties keeping medical marijuana bills out of the news, it's the big industry forces that don't want to see their markets threatened by a plant that anyone can grow in their own backyard.
