The problem with reducing profit of drug companies is that it isn't a free lunch. It isn't even a lunch that just the drug companies pay for. Reduce the expected profit and you reduce investment in the endeavor. Now some people would argue that a reduction in future drug research would be worth it. I tend to disagree, but worth it or not, the cost has to be acknowledged.
