I am reading a book called The Faith Club by three women, one Jewish, one CHristian, and one Muslim (a Palestinian, which made their communication even more challenging), who met for several years doing exactly what you are talking about-- discussing the commonalities of the three religions and confronting the differences. Each of them experienced periods of doubt and each had crises of faith.

I am particularly enjoying the Muslim's sections. She is very educated and wellspoken, and extremely upset at the hijacking of her religion by extremists. Also fascinating are the holy land, whose land? discussions.

Understanding is the only way out of the mess, but unfortunately many see obama's desire to talk to our "enemies" as a weakness. There is a column today on what Obama would do when IRan tests its first nuclear weapon at PfP. It's obvious that they want the big stick approach. I believe in big sticks, but I sure want a lot of soft speaking also.
