Point-counterpoint today on Chipotle

21-Apr-08 09:17 ET In Play Chipotle Mexican Grill: Jefferies expecting 1Q08 upside, but 20% run in shares suggesting expectation mounting (114.95 ) -Update : Jefferies says CMG's best-in-class business model drives its industry-leading unit-level economics, EPS growth, ROIC expansion, SSS, and FCF growth. The quality gap between CMG and its peers will become more apparent in a weakening consumer environment, and firm expects the valuation premium for CMG vs. the peer group to grow.

21-Apr-08 07:43 ET In Play Chipotle Mexican Grill: 1Q08 preview - Morgan Joseph (111.48 ) : Morgan Joseph believes 1Q08 should mark the first quarter of growth deceleration for CMG. While firm believes CMG remains one of the best operators in the industry, they also believe that like its comps, it will eventually fall victim to the recessionary consumer environment. At a steep valuation, in firm's view, of 19.1x their 2008 EBITDA est, firm believes shares are currently teetering on the edge of what could be a slippery slope further into 2008. While firm is encouraged by the co's positive traffic guidance for the year, the current operating environment is a pretty risky.
