Gosh no. I was only saying that as white women we do not participate in the black experience. When Obama says it was hard being black at times in his youth, I'm prepared to believe him. I think it CAN be hard to be black (even now), in ways that white people do not always understand. And I'm equally sure blacks do not understand whites perfectly. We may all be human beings first, but we are ridiculed and belittled in different ways, and you were saying that what Obama said about his experiences wasn't true- based on the sort of wishy washy testimony of other people who weren't living his life. Many of us suffer without showing that we suffer- that's how successful human beings cope, and Obama is nothing if not successful. That's all I took issue with.
