No, my income has been pretty much the same since I retired. Almost all of my income is from a pension. What has changed is not my income. What is different is 1) that they recently passed the means-test law (effective in '07) and 2) I turned 65 so I entered Medicare.

I'm not sure what I said that confused things. Sorry about that.

This is my first year in Medicare and shortly after I enrolled I got a notice that I had to pay a means-tested premium. I was startled by that because I never thought of my retirement income as signaling "wealthy." Particularly given that that same income is low enough to be qualifying for a real estate poverty program.

It's the juxtaposition that boggles my mind.
