You must be living on another planet from the one I'm on if you don't think that commodities have been rising due to excessive speculation. Starvation is not only due to lack of supplies, it can be due to the inability of the common man to pay for the food. One quick look at the circumstances surrounding the French Revolution would be a place to for you to start your investigations, imo.
