Why is it odd? It is the definition of an insurance program. You pay in premiums which you may or may not collect in benefits. Some will get less and some will get more.

The way the life expectancies are going in this country, SS may be more affordable than anyone thinks. It is not the same as the general fund for the government. You can believe it or not but it isn't the same.

No, taking off the income tax will fund Social Security as far as the eye can see since, as I've said repeatedly, the baby boom lump is a demographic oddity and will come and then die away. It simply makes Social Security a fair tax and not the regressive tax that it currently is.

Do you think that someone who makes more than $100K should get a tax break on SS that someone who makes less does not? Why?

Apparently your freshman econ wasn't very good. Mine was.
