if you can ally with stalin against hitler or with mao against USSR you can create better relations with iran. The axis of evil was our creation of strategic enemies. Iran used be more like an annoyance that competed with us in the mideast than a strategic threat. After 9/11 they helped us in afganistan and in going after al quaeda. AQ hates iran so they always face a possible major enemy in the future. We need to relate to them better and in sunniland need to separate out non-al quaeda sunnis from alq.
