"McCain requested and received zero earmarks. Earmarks are a symptom of the real problem. Entitlements are the problem. The political party that ends the endless unfettered entitlement growth will remain in power for a long time."

HOW can you END the "unfettered growth"? The FIRST Party that says it's going to do that will probably NEVER get elected again. We are going to have more and more elderly people in this country and the LAST thing they want to hear is they're going to get less Social Security and Medical Care. That's why NO candidate EVER says they are going to screw with that stuff.

Democrats have run out of string with the endless string of entitlement growth as an entitlement unto itself. The debt and federal budget are too large. It was easy to ignore in the past because payroll taxes were much greater than entitlement payouts with the excess wasted immediately for other wasteful spending and earmarks. Soon entitlement payouts will exceed payroll tax collected.

The problem has gotten too large to ignore. It may not be for another decade, but soon the party of confiscatory taxes and government largess will be permanently in the minority.

I too understand that the health insurance morass that corporations have created has gotten too cumbersome. Big organizations always seem to look for bigger solutions to huge problems. The obvious solution is to put control back into the hands of consumers and let the invisible hand of the market restore order.
