Actually, they are still around.


I would assume they still have some applicability in process control and similar applications where there is value in eliminating the D/A conversion. Certainly, a different kind of animal from anything I've ever worked with (as a child, I built a rudimentary analog computer from an article in Popular Electronics, well before the first articles on building digital computers appeared there; but it was generally useless).
