The +/-100v range op amps were built on tube technology. Back then one could even buy Heathkit style +/-10v rails versions of the same based on transistor technology! But of course the wider rail to rail made scaling much easier and improved precision.

One of student friends had a full flight simulator thus simulated. I did a plastic batch reactor with forced water cooling as the temperatures tends to increase exponentially with the chemical reaction.

Interesting stuff.
