That is a disease that might have been cured or averted. That's the kind of thing I'd like to see my government do. There are bazillions of potential problems out there. If we were to assign each to a bureaucrat to monitor on the off chance that it would turn into a problem, well,... Seems to me that's the kind of problem identification that media, whistleblowers, and the like are supposed to identify. You may want to government to take some initiative in sifting through those problems identified and propose action, which it should have done in this case, but the model is already in place for that. It just didn't work in this time. Accountability is a conservative rallying cry, I understand, but it seems to me that's what was missing in that case.
