We did not obliterate Germany, we did not obliterate Japan, we did not obliterate Korea, we did not obliterate Vietnam, we did not obliterate Iraq ... we did not obliterate ANYONE

Hmmmm. Well, it is quite true that so far the U.S. has not obliterated any entire country.

Would it be unfair to point out that we did do a pretty good job of obliterating Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Including more than a few innocent children and civilians. In a war. In order to save the lives of Americans which otherwise would have been lost in a Japanese invasion. My guess is that a pretty high percentage of Americans today approve of that historic act.

When, not if, Iran finally develops the big one, and they are totally mad enough to obliterate Israel, and threaten to sell it to terrorist groups in order to threaten the U.S.....well, the POTUS has a problem. With no perfect solutions.

I'm not sure that it's quite fair, however, to propose that hypothetical question to anyone running for president.
