Something just occurred to me. Some people are wondering whether Obama really can beat John McCain in November, given the fact that he hasn't been able to put Hillary away. They point out that he will probably be facing the same kind of negative attacks then that he is facing now, and that those attacks seem to be working for Hillary.

What occurred to me is this. I think it will be far easier for Obama to weather such attacks when he is facing McCain, for a very simple reason. When dealing with attacks from Hillary, he can't just change the subject to the policy differences that make him the preferable candidate, because he and Hillary don't really differ much on policy.

With McCain, he doesn't have that disadvantage. He can stay on the high road and just hammer away at the real issues. I think that will make a big difference.
