TEL AVIV, Israel & NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 15, 1997--
Industry-Leading Protection, with Total Transparency
and Ease-of-Use, for Software Running on
New Generation PCs and Laptops with USB Ports
To Be Presented at Comdex (Las Vegas) November 17-21
and Systems (Munich) October 27-31
Aladdin Knowledge Systems Ltd. (NASDAQ: ALDNF) today announced the development of the first software protection keys for use with the Universal Serial Bus interface: USB-Hasp and Hardlock-USB.
The latest additions to the market-leading HASP and Hardlock families of software security products, USB-HASP and Hardlock-USB will offer comprehensive transparent and user-friendly anti-piracy protection using the newly-emerging industry standard USB Port. The first demonstrations of Aladdin's USB products will take place at the Comdex exhibition in Las Vegas, Nov. 17-21 and at the Systems exhibition in Munich, Oct. 27-31.
Major IT players including Intel, IBM, Compaq, Digital Equipment, Microsoft, and NEC developed the USB Port in response to the demand for a simple, self-configuring, one-port option allowing true plug-and-play for computer peripherals. Aladdin in turn has developed Hardlock-USB and USB-Hasp ensuring that full protection is available for software running on new-generation PCs equipped with USB ports.
Developed by Aladdin Germany (formerly FAST Software Security), Hardlock-USB and USB-Hasp integrate all of Aladdin's renowned anti-piracy features:
--State-of-the-art ASIC security
--Advanced security algorithms and anti-debugging features
--Unparalleled security between the protected software and the key.
"Hardlock-USB and USB-Hasp maintain and extend Aladdin's established user-friendliness in the way they implement protection," says Michael Zunke, Head of R&D at Aladdin Germany. "Software developers know that thanks to Aladdin's unified, cross-platform high-level API, they can ship products that are protected whatever the platform and configuration of the PC."
"Aladdin remains fully committed to provide security solutions that meet every development in the computer industry," says Aladdin's VP Marketing and Sales, Aryeh Green. "Our response to the arrival of USB is evidence of this determination."
Software piracy is the biggest challenge facing the software industry today. Both the SPA and BSA estimate that illegal use of software cost the industry over $11.2 billion in 1996 alone, and that almost 50% of business applications in use today are unlicensed.
