I don't see anything in here about disagreeing with the consensus or predominant view, so provocative questions and statements are allowed, right?

It's hard to define the rules as they have evolved over 3 years and 60,000 posts, and they certainly aren't (and can't be) applied uniformly, perfectly and symmetrically in all situations.

Rule Numero Uno is don't attack another poster personally over anything. The usual pattern is a political disagreement becomes you're stupid, you hate America, etc.

Second rule is that individual politicians can be roasted to your heart's content.

Third rule, when it comes to groups and political parties, the rule is vaguer. I don't think it's constructive for posts to dismiss all Democrats or all Republicans as always evil/stupid/whatever, because it impedes our discussing their real policy differences. I just ask that people look at the record of what a given group does and focus on that rather than the usual demonization and bashing.

Though inevitably some of that creeps in here and goes unchallenged.

If you have any questions, PM me before you post and I will give you my quick opinion and/or verdict.

Welcome.
