How do you figure when something is too much, just right or not enough? If, say, all taxes were lowered by 50%, what would happen?

What services would we lose, what would happen with the economy? Would we get a 9% GDP? Would anyone save anything or simply spend it and then rack up more debt?

Much if not most of the discussion about taxes is ideological and not practical. There are some activities that can be done better by the collective we (i.e. the government in a democracy) than by private organizations. This is shown time and again yet too many people have the mindset that all enterprises should be private whenever possible.

This sounds right because we have grown up with this idea but it is not supported by real world experiences.
