The right wing doesn't want to nationalize anything, it wants to privatize everything including SS and war. The right wing wants to provide outsized profits for a few and make everyone else a serf.

Have you seen government get together with unions lately? Government is constantly in the pocket of corporations.

Things change quietly at the margin but FISA, the militarization of the police, Gitmo, rendition, torture, etc. are all hallmarks of right wing authoritarian rule. I see people calling for military at the border which would put the military on private property doing police work.

The US doesn't have to become a fascist state in one fell swoop but the tendencies of fascist-creep are certainly evident. Fraud is absolutely rampant in the US government. If we finally get a Democratic President, we might (might) get a peak underneath the covers to see the stench that is the Bush administration.

From Halliburton to Blackwater, allegations of fraud and malfeasance among government contractors have been making a regular appearance in newspaper headlines and congressional hearings.

Equally disturbing are the stories of retribution. In testimony before a Senate panel on Sept. 21, whistleblowers testified they were demoted, fired and, in one case, actually imprisoned by the U.S. military and subjected to harsh interrogation over a three-month period.

Congress is responding with a spate of new legislation designed to protect whistleblowers and crack down on companies that bilk the government.

The bills have strong bipartisan support, reflecting the desire of members of both parties to rein in the excesses of the Iraq war, the perceived arrogance of the Bush administration and judicial rulings that have cut deeply into anti-fraud laws....
