The one I could never understand was Agnew. I didn't see the political benefits to Nixon. And, of course, he had to resign. As far as that goes, Nixon himself. I gather he was forced on Eisenhower by the party's right wing. And, perhaps, to protect himself from the McCarthy element in the party. I've never read about Eisenhower's reasoning on this one.

As far as that goes, just spinning the mind a bit, Truman must have been a stretch for Roosevelt. Turned out alright but I wonder if Roosevelt saw something or just needed some sort of political protection.
