I think perhaps you are thinking of different things when you use the term "open mindedness".

I believe ManyMoose would agree that looking at the other side of the argument, and being willing to rexamine your views in the light of new evidence or argument, is a good thing. I certainly believe that.

But having some inertia in this regard is also good. Firmly established principles should be resistant to change, and even opinions that aren't principles, shouldn't float around in the breeze, changing any time the wind shifts.

I think what he is calling open mindedness, I would call either "extreme open mindedness", or even "having no firmly established principles and opinions".
