"The policies of the government probably matter more than the political system of the country when your just looking at economic growth"

Which was my point. You can have things like single payer health care or single payer retirement insurance and have things go well in a country. It depends on who is actually watching over these things.

My point is that it doesn't matter that much as to what is private or what is public as much as it matters who is actually involved. You can have very good government programs and very bad ones. Ditto for the private sector.

These things also change over time. That is why I am saying that, since it works better in other countries than our hodge podge system, let's try single payer health care. This is important now because our system is getting ready to bury us and it will take out private corporations along with individual citizens.

I am also saying to revert back to a US military war and kick out the private contractors who aren't under the chain of command and are poorly regulated if at all regulated. That will mean calling for a draft which is a good thing anyway. War isn't a private adventure, it is a public commitment so let's commit publicly or not at all. Preferably we all decide to not commit and so bring everyone home.

I don't know how China's growth will play out. I suspect the cost to the average Chinese is steep although it certainly benefits the small number of urbanites. They need regulation because their reputation for making dangerous products isn't exactly going to help their growth.
