"My point--the argument about speculators driving the price up is a real argument, or capable of being a real argument. Depends on who makes it and with what evidence. That it occurs is undeniable."

Yes - when shortages occur you can bet speculators get involved. What is the root cause - shortages or speculators?

John - what we have here is a situation where one political perspective sees everything in a certain light. One person will say we can end dependence on middle east oil with solar panels and wind mills. Another will say CO2 is a crisis. Another will say high commodity prices are the result of speculators.

I think I am the only voice here willing to say the issues are more complicated. Those of the Democratic or leftist persuasion simply do not seem to recognize some of the realities of what is going on in the world. I simply do not understand the mentality.

What it causes is avoidance of the policy changes that are needed because the problems are not real - they are the result of some evil somewhere - big oil, speculators, etc. It is like Hillary and Obama blaming the problems of the rust belt on trade - and you know they know better. Talk about playing to peoples fears! What do you call the campaigns of Hillary and Barrack?

Guys - it is not that simple. How about some depth of discussion?
